Retention
A Retention Policy allows organizations to specify how long to retain different classes of messages in the archive. The ArcMail appliance allows organizations to create retention policies on any searchable message attribute, including user. This gives organizations the ultimate flexibility for implementing retention policies that meet their exact requirements.
Each message is controlled by one Retention Policy. Based on message content, messages will be assigned to the Retention Policy that has the highest Policy Precedence. In other words, when a message might be controlled by multiple Retention Policies, the Retention Policy with the highest Policy Precedence controls the message.
Policy Precedence is a number establishing the order in which all policies will be evaluated when assigning a Retention Policy to a message. Policy Precedence is numbered from lowest to highest.
