Import IMAP

The Internet Message Access Protocol (commonly known as IMAP or IMAP4) is an application layer Internet protocol that allows a local client to access email on a remote server.

Procedure 1-12- Perform the following steps to import IMAP:

Step Action
1 Click the MESSAGE TOOLS icon.
2 Click Import IMAP.
3 Import user mail accounts to the appliance.

• Mail server - Provide the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) or IP address of your email server. (i.e. mail.company.com or x.x.x.x)
• User name - Enter the IMAP user name of the mailbox to be imported. In some cases it may be necessary to enter the username in the format: user@domain.com
• Password - Enter the password for the mailbox user.
• Email address for results - Enter an email address that is to receive the import results upon import completion.
• Start date (yyyymmdd) - Enter a start date of messages to be imported.
Leave blank for no start date limit.
• End date (yyyymmdd) - Enter an end date of messages to be imported.
Leave blank for no end date limit.
Note: Changing the advanced settings is only needed for rare situations.
For most imports, the default settings should be used.

Check the Show advanced settings checkbox to gain access to the advanced settings. The advanced settings are described below:

• Delay between messages - This field sets the delay (in seconds) between each message that is imported into the appliance.
Note 1: Use 0 for no delay between importing individual messages.
Note 2: Fractions of a second or decimals may be used (1/2, 0.5).
• Maximum queue depth - This field sets the maximum depth of the appliance import queue. Making the queue too large can cause a significant delay in importing new archived emails in high traffic environments. Once the appliance reaches the maximum queue depth, it will throttle import of messages to sustain the maximum queue capacity until the process is completed.

• IMAP Timeout - IMAP Timeout sets the timeout period (in seconds)
before ending the import process. If an IMAP timeout occurs, an email
notification is sent to the Email address for results contact.

4 Click Next. The appliance searches through the import directory and lists all available
folders and files ready for import.
5 Click Import. The import process runs in the background. An email is sent to the Email address for results contact when the process is complete.

Note: Use the Import Status screen (under MESSAGE TOOLS) to view import status information.
