Archive Options

Archive Options

Most archive options are configured during installation.

Procedure 1-21 - Perform the following steps to modify archive options:

Step Action
1 Click the CONFIGURATION icon.
2 Click Archive Options.
3 Configure the following archive options:

• Default search results date sort order - This field allows selection of the default date sort order for archive search results. The choices are ascending and descending. Select your preferred sort order for your search results.

— Ascending - Use this option to have the default sort from oldest message (at the top) to the most recent message.
— Descending (default) - Use this setting to have the default sort from the most recent message (at the top) to the oldest message.

• Date for archive searches and results - This field specifies the date to use for archive search, search results, restore all, and export. The choices are: received date or sent date. Select the desired email date the appliance uses when performing an archive search.

— Received date - The date the email message was transacted through the local email server.
— Sent date - The date the originating email client sent the message. This is also the re-sent date, if present.

• Optional subject tag for restore - The text in this field is added to the beginning of the subject line of restored messages.
Example: ArcMail Restored
• Maximum messages for Restore All - This field specifies the maximum number of messages to restore from a single archive search. This value limits the number of messages that can be restored when clicking the Restore All from this query button on the archive search screen.
• Header field for hidden recipients - This field specifies the message header field for hidden recipients.
Example: X-Recipients or X-Ironport-RCPT-TO.
• Include Received for recipients - This field specifies whether or not to include recipient addresses listed in the for clause of Received header lines.

• Archive restored messages? - This field specifies whether or not to archive restored messages. If this value is set to “yes”, restored messages are archived again upon restoration.
• Bypass Message-ID duplicates? - This setting is used to check for duplicate message-IDs. Email from a sender outside the local mail domain can cause as many duplicates as there are recipients of the message to be archived.

— No (default) - If this field is set to “no”, there are no checks for duplicate message-IDs.
— Yes - Select this option to check for duplicate message-IDs. Messages that have the same message-ID are only archived once.

Note: Enabling duplicate message-ID checking causes some email header information to be lost. The impacted header information comes from the duplicate messages. This information can contain the “received for: <username>” and other mailserver related data. The main header data, such as to:, from: and date/time is not impacted.
• Quick path for bypassed Message-ID duplicates? - This field specifies whether or not to minimize the saved information for bypassed Message-ID duplicates. This option can significantly improve performance on appliances receiving large numbers of Message-ID duplicates.
