Product Upgrades for v2.5.0, 2.6.0 of Ransomware Recovery Manager (RRM) and Up via Smart Control Resource Manager (SCRM)

Prerequisites

  • Smart Control Resource Manager v2.5.0 must be actively running and have an active network connection

Endpoint devices being upgraded need to be in an unprotected state

Upgrade path for endpoint devices running RRM v2.5.0 and Up

Important Notes:

  • Read this document in its entirety before attempting the upgrade

  • These steps should only be used to upgrade endpoint devices between versions 2.4.0 and 2.4.9 via Smart Control Resource Manager (SCRM)

Required Files:

  • Latest version of our RRM installer “Ransomware Recovery Manager Setup v2.5.#.exe”

Upgrade Steps:

  1. Launch SCRM

  2. Select “File”

  3. Select “Import Update File”

  4. Select the latest version of our RRM installer

  5. A pop up box will display saying if the import was successful or not

    1. If successful then select “ok” and proceed to step 6

    2. If not successful repeat steps 2-4

  6. Unprotect all end point device that you would like to upgrade

    1. To select multiple device hold down the “Ctrl” button on your keyboard and left click all device with the mouse

      1. You will need to send an unprotect command to all client side devices selected

      2. Then send a reboot command to all devices

  7. Once these selected devices come back online you can select them again and proceed to step 8

  8. Right click on the highlighted devices or select “Client Control” in the top bar

    1. Select “Update Management”

    2. Then select “Update via Smart Control”

    3. Enter the password required for your endpoint devices

  9. Verify that the command was received by the endpoint devices using the “Last Result” Column

    1. If received successfully proceed to step 9

    2. If not received successfully repeat steps 6-7

  10. Right click on the highlighted devices or select “Client Control” in the top bar

    1. Select “Update Management”

    2. Then select “Update Settings”

    3. A new pop-up window will appear with three radio buttons

      1. Disable Client Updates (Default setting)

      2. Download Updates and Notify

      3. Schedule Updates Check

        1. A bug has been identified with these settings where endpoint devices don’t take the new settings when using radio buttons via SCRM. This does not impact product upgrades only impacts changing this setting for endpoint devices from SCRM.

    4. Select “Run Now” which will kick off the product update on the endpoint devices for any version after 2.5.0

      1. Upgrades can take between 5-10 minutes

      2. Verify that the upgrade was successful by reviewing the “Product Version” column in SCRM for the new version number

  11. Once this has completed you can send a protect request to the devices that were just upgraded

  12. Then send a reboot request to all device that were upgraded

  13. Once these devices come back online you have completed this workflow!
