Upgrading or Migrating Smart Control Resource Manager (SCRM)

Upgrading or Migrating SCRM without using a license key will suspend the client computers connected to it after 5 days, be sure to have your SCRM license key ready before processing the steps in the document below

If upgrade is including New Devices/Laptops, BitLocker will need to be set to off.

Open CMD in Administrator mode and enter this command: manage-bde -status

If the status in 100% encrypted

Turn-off Bitlocker via CLI: manage-bde -off C:

Note: Reboot the computer if the issue persist uninstall RRM and reboot

Wizard Installer for RRMSD

  1. Download the version 2.6.0 / 2.5.0.235

  2. Open the SCRM folder

  3. You’ll see several folders select folder 2.6.0 / 2.5.0.235

  4. You’ll see two download options, Select → Smart Control v2.6.0 exe

Select Next

End User License Agreement -> Select Next after accepting the terms.

Steps for Upgrading SCRM

This upgrade should take between 15-20 minutes to complete

  1. Launch SCRM

  2. Right Click on the IP address set for SCRM located in the left pane at the very top

    1. By default this IP address is set to 127.0.0.1 during installation of SCRM

  3. Select License Summary

  4. Select License Key

  5. Copy the license key seen here and save it somewhere safe that can be accessed again after uninstalling the current version of SCRM

This is very important to capture as you will need it during the installation of the newest version below

  1. Next select File

  2. Then Select Import/Export Data

  3. Check all boxes that appear on the pop up window

  4. Then select Export

    1. This will open file explorer for you to save the export somewhere easily accessible

  5. After the export completes close SCRM

  6. Go to the control panel and uninstall Smart Control

  7. Once the un-installation completes be sure to have your SCRM license key ready

  8. Run the installer for the latest version of SCRM and be sure to enter your license key in when prompted

  9. After you complete the installation you will then need to repeat steps 6-8

  10. This time however instead of selecting Export you will select Import

    1. This will open file explorer where you will select the export file we just created in step 9

  11. Once the import completes you will need to reboot the device that SCRM was just installed on

Moving SCRM to a new device

You will need to submit a support ticket and have us complete a Database Reset on the license key your SCRM is using so plan ahead if you are looking to migrate to a new device.

  1. Launch SCRM

  2. Right Click on the IP address set for SCRM located in the left pane at the very top

  3. Select License Summary

  4. Select License Key

  1. Submit a support ticket requesting a “Database Reset” to be performed on the license key you just copied

  2. After our Support team has reset your license key you can proceed to step 6

  3. Next select File

  4. Then Select Import/Export Data

  5. Check all boxes that appear on the pop up window

  6. Then select Export

    1. This will open file explorer for you to save the export somewhere easily accessible by the new device

  7. After the export completes close SCRM

  8. Go to the control panel on the device with SCRM currently installed and uninstall it

  9. Once the un-installation completes go to the new device and proceed to step 13

  10. Run the installer for the latest version of SCRM and be sure to enter your license key in when prompted

  11. After you complete the installation you will then need to repeat steps 8-10

  12. This time however instead of selecting Export you will select Import

    1. This will open file explorer where you will select the export file we just created in step 11

  13. Once the import completes you will need to reboot the device that SCRM was just installed on

  14. After it comes back up all devices should reconnect appropriately and you have completed your migration!
