BACKUPS

The ArcMail appliance provides the option to backup and restore the data that is contained within its archive. Backups of the archive data are critical in the event of catastrophic failure or other situations that result in data loss. These backups can be scheduled or manually started and can occur at varying intervals. Backups can either be stored locally on the Arcmail appliance or stored remotely on a network share.

The archive grows and fills the appliance’s onboard storage space. A method is provided to remove previously backed-up older data from the appliance. Once the configuration of the network storage device is complete, the appliance migrates the older data monthly or annually.

Note 1: For databases expected to grow larger than 500GB, ArcMail strongly recommends incremental backups rather than full backups to back up data. An incremental backup process significantly reduces
backup time since only data that has been added since the previous incremental backup needs to be stored.

Note 2: ArcMail recommends using yearly, monthly, weekly and daily incremental backups.
Set schedule for monthly incremental backups. These backups are retained permanently.

Set schedule for daily incremental backups. In the event of a total system failure requiring a “bare metal” restore (restoring all data to new disks or a new Arcmail appliance), each monthly incremental file is restored in consecutive order. All daily incremental files saved since the last monthly incremental backup are restored after the monthly incremental restorations.
